The Oscars – the perfect place to play with bold style – after all, you want people talking about you, and if you can’t make a statement on the Oscars’ red carpet, well, you may as well stay at home.
This year, although overshadowed by the ‘great envelope mix-up’, the red carpet was beautifully bedazzled by an ensemble of fabulous film stars. We’ve chosen some of our favourite looks to inspire and swoon over!
Nominated for best actress, Ruth Negga declared she was in love! With her dress… A beautiful red custom Valentino Haute Couture. And is that a Fashion Week inspired head adornment we spy…? It must be true, Alice bands are back!
Fifteen years after winning her Best Actress award, Halle Berry graced the red carpet in sparkling Versace, with an asymmetric draped neckline and loads of texture, ready to present the Best Director award.
Charlize Theron wowed the crowds with a shimmering metallic Dior Haute Couture, but it was her enormous Chopard earrings that really got people talking.
The Best Actress winner, Emma Stone, styled her look perfectly in keeping with her performance in La La Land. A flirty hemmed custom champagne Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci.
Viola Davis’ Best Supporting Actress win was itself, perfectly supported by a stunning crimson number. Her Armani Prive dropped shoulder halter-neck was a gorgeous choice for the Oscar winner.
Chrissy Teigen chose a sparkling, daring white gown. Its thigh high split and sheer front combined with train/cape addition made for a perfect combination. Even if husband John Legend did keep standing on it!
In her golden, shimmering Kaufmanfranco gown, Jessica Biel could have been mistaken for a golden statuette herself! The distressed detailing and Tiffany & Co necklace combine for a beautiful display.
Draped in something quite different, Brie Larson chose a gorgeous black velvet Oscar de la Renta dress. Ruffles galore for this structured strapless number.
Model Karlie Kloss chose a totally appropriate gown with a trend straight off the catwalks of Fashion Week. A pure white fitted Stella McCartney dress with an integrated cape. Its simple lines together with Brie’s elegant jewellery just oozed glamour…
Presenting the award for Best Animated Feature Film, actress Hailee Steinfeld first wowed the red carpet with her delicate and oh-so-pretty sheer Ralph & Russo couture gown. Featuring metallic flowers, a high neck and a trail of 3D flowers down the back, all eyes were distracted from the little rip in the front… oops!
And we can’t talk about the Oscars red carpet without a nod to Pharrell. In Chanel, of course, Mr Williams did it again, styling the other guys right out of the park.
