Quendon Hall, Parklands
Quendon Hall at Parklands is a beautifully historic mansion, set amongst the beautiful 100 acres of parkland for you and your guests to enjoy for the day. There are three reception rooms licensed for Civil Weddings, as well as a license now granted to hold your wedding ceremony outside in the Wedding Gazebo set up in the exquisitely manicured grounds of Parklands.
The Banqueting Hall that looks out over Parklands Deer Park, has the capacity to hold up to 130 guests. The Billiard Room is rather smaller, with room for up to 78 guests and, for those more intimate weddings, there is the sumptuously-decorated Drawing Room for around 30 guests. For those brides planning a large event, Quendon Hall can provide a silk-lined marquee that has the capacity to seat up to 450 guests, a perfect choice for that 5-star wedding occasion.
Three Rivers Golf and Country Club, Cold Norton, Purleigh
Cold Norton is the nearest village to this venue with the capacity to cater for up to 400 wedding guests. Fantastic views and a 36 hold golf course as well as a completed refurbished gym and spa facilities are all available for the pleasure of guests who stay at Three Rivers Golf and Country Club.
Stockbrook Country Club, Stock
Stockbrook Country Club can be found just outside the village of Stock. This country house provides stunning panoramic views over the nearby countryside. This is a 200 acre estate that incorporates an award-winning 27 hole golf course, amidst rolling parklands.
In the house the banqueting suites are more traditional, offering you the choice of the Garden Room for up to 140 guests, or the Rosewood Suite from where garden doors give direct access to the secluded charm of the sunken garden and the surprising addition of a life-sized chess board. The Rosewood Suite has room to cater for up to 100 seated guests and 150 guests for a buffet. The largest of all rooms is the Banqueting Suite, with room for up to 250 seated guests and 300 guests for a buffet. This room has charming views across the nearby golf course, as well as having access to the lawn and main patio area.
East Mersea Hall, Colchester
Mersea Island offers a beautiful 16th century country manor house as an exquisite venue for your wedding. East Mersea Hall is an Elizabethan Country Mansion, with its Grade II listing, is even surrounded by a moat! East Mersea Hall has been licensed for Civil Weddings although this location is more than happy to welcome those couples who marry in a nearby church and would like to use East Mersea Hall’s facilities for their reception. In fact, St Edmunds Parish Church is just a stones’ throw away, abutting the boundaries of the Hall.
For the bride and groom who decide to hold their Civil Wedding at East Mersea Hall, there is the Terrace Room available for wedding parties up to 45 guests, although the area adjacent to the Terrace Room can easily accommodate the overflow. While the bride and groom have their photographs taken why not arrange for guests to enjoy champagne and canapés served on the terrace after the ceremony? The Pavilion is a glass-fronted venue that takes in breathtaking views of the nearby lake. This room can easily accommodate up to 120 guests for a sit down meal, or as many as 150 for a wedding buffet.
Marygreen Manor, Brentwood
Marygreen Manor offers a sedate and mellow facade to the world, with its delightful 16th century architecture. This venue has been licensed for Civil Weddings and, in terms of location it couldn’t be more convenient for your guests’ arrival. Marygreen Manor is literally a 2 minute drive from Junction 28 of the M25, with easy access to the airports of Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted as well as east coast ferry services and the Channel Tunnel link. A genuine Tudor room, brimming over with character, the Henry VIII Suite makes a perfect setting for your wedding venue. As you enter this suite you will be overwhelmed by the enormous inglenook fireplace and ambience of historic grandeur.
The Henry VIII Suite is perfect for those with a disability since it is located on the ground floor. It is large enough to hold up to 85 guests seated, although guests can overflow into the Samuel Pepys Room next door, providing room for 150 guests to be catered for. Samuel Pepys Room is also licensed for Civil Weddings, with plenty of space for your guests to spread out. Then there is Tudors Restaurant, otherwise known as the Baronial Hall. Guests staying here for a few days can enjoy international cuisine and a particularly fine wine list during their stay. However, it can be hired as part of one of the wedding packages to hold your wedding breakfast, or just for guests to relax in during the day of your wedding.
The Courtyard Garden is a particularly tranquil spot for guests to relax and a lovely setting for your photographs to be taken, either by the Rose Arbour, the Ornamental Pond or the Thatched Game Larder which is actually an authentic relic from those days of hunting.
Smeetham Hall Barn, Sudbury
Smeetham Hall is another 16th century property, this one situated on the borders of Essex and Suffolk. This is a lovely location for you to hold your wedding and photographs will look absolutely fantastic beside the carp lake with its border of overhanging willow fronds. The barn, which is licensed for Civil Weddings, has sufficient room for up to 150 guests and makes a perfect place to hold your reception as it has an excellent, large dance floor. A marquee can be erected, if need be, to accommodate a larger wedding party. The management here are professional, courteous and friendly: in fact, you are even encouraged to bring your own drinks with you. They do not charge a corkage fee so bringing your drinks with you will not add to the cost of your wedding package here.
