The Latest Trends From The Designer Wedding Show

At the weekend I went to one of my favourite wedding events of the year, The Designer Wedding Show, the UK’s most chic wedding event. I spoke with many exhibitors and could clearly see their passion about style, service and quality. It was so great to see so many leading bridal wear designers in one place. I met with some of the best and exciting names in flowers, cakes, photography, shoes, gift list, honeymoons, millinery, and much more.

I wanted to get the latest hot trends, new products for 2011 from the leaders in the luxury wedding market.

It was great to catch up again with Ivy Ellen, they create gorgeous handmade wedding invitations for brides and grooms looking for something extra special for their wedding day. I had the pleasure of seeing Ivy Ellen’s new Pearlescent collection.  The Pearlescent collection is available off the shelf or can be customised to any combination of 55 chosen wedding colours (pastel pink, green and blue very on trend at the moment), with or without the ribbon and printed on the stunning heavyweight pearl scent board, simply beautiful!

Rosalind Miller Cakes really caught my eye, all Rosalind’s wedding cakes and cupcakes are traditionally home baked using specially created mouth-watering recipes, and they use organic and fair trade ingredients where ever possible. I just loved Rosalind’s Cameo couture cupcake collection, they were dusted with a pearlised finish. I saw her beads and frills wedding cake, which was truly a unique edible work of art. Rosalind told me she had she has recently finished filming for Wedding TV’s “The Great Cake Bake” (due to air in February 2011).

Moving on to honeymoons, I visited The Couture Travel Company who provide haute couture, tailor-made honeymoons, specially created for those who seek value for money, lasting memories, quality family time, fun, adventure, style, renewal, romance and enchantment in their holidays. It was interesting to hear that now couples going on honeymoon really want unusual experiences, however still maintain luxury at all times. The Indian Ocean and Safaris are very popular at the moment. Eco still very top of the list, they told me a recent couple went to Kenya for a honeymoon, and then returned back to Kenya to help build a school for the local residents!

Nicki Macfarlane showed me some of her award winning designs that are now very much inspired by costume drama from television.  The colour trend at the moment is all naturals, pale pastel colours, from pinks to green to baby blues her clients have included many celebrities and society brides.

Maunsel House had a recent celebrity wedding of Amanda Redman & Damian Schnabel, they had a peacock theme for their wedding. With lots of light greens and pastel colours.  Amanda had two beautiful wedding gowns one of which was Ritva Westenius. Mansel House is having a great demand for English country fair style of weddings at the moment, such as fete’s, carousels, ponies bouncy castles and old fashioned ice cream cart.

Temperley at the moment is all about the 1920’s 1030’s Hollywood glamour, a firm favourite with brides at the moment is one of their beautiful gowns with twinkle glass beading inspired by the 1920’s.

Emmy from, Emmy shoes showed me her new collection of Love Letters, Francesca, inspired by the 1970’s made in Suede or leather with shell and crystal detail. Emmy’s has a collection of well designed, beautifully feminine and delicate wedding shoes that reflect up-to-date wedding trends.

Scattercake’s  exquisite cakes were elegant, refined and perfectly finished, with the kind of attention to detail that shouts ‘class’. Cupcakes on a  beautiful mirror-base stand, with individually piped butterflies in complimentary colours;  a striking ivory cake with a spray of silver-beaded wires and delicate filigree piping, and the simplicity of this bridal-white cake, topped with a beautiful sugar flower arrangement.  All of Scattercake’s cakes are bespoke, and made using only the finest ingredients from recipes that have been developed over time. Annie Relph, Scattercake’s owner and cake designer,  has a degree in Fine Art, and was mentored by Eddie Spence, MBE; ex-cake  maker to the Queen, no less!

Moving on to DJ’s Sliding Vinyl told me the coolest thing he did recently was play with with live conga players, they add a real party atmosphere!I hope this has given you a bit of inspiration for planning your luxury wedding, 5 Star Weddings look forward to going to the next Designer Wedding Show in October 2011
